VISIONS OF ZHIVA

PRESENTING MUSIC FROM CENTRAL EUROPE

ABOUT THE ZINE

Europe is easy to travel but her cultures are hard to access if you don’t speak respective national languages. On similar grounds, it is not easy for musicians to reach listeners beyond their country of origin. Even if they sing in nearly-perfect English, there might not be anyone writing about them in the global language.

Visions of Zhiva is a music zine presenting artists from Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland and beyond. Our choices are based on own taste and on what we feel might be interesting to an international audience. We hope to share the local talents with the rest of the rest of the world and to encourage a more dynamic exchange between local scenes. Our vision is that of a world where nationality (and other such categories) cease to play a role. We hope to build bridges not borders.
Who is Zhiva? Zhiva is the anglicized spelling of the name Živa (also Živena, Siwa). The Slavic goddess of life and fertility was worshipped in the region of today’s Poland, Germany, Czech Republic and Slovakia before the arrival of Christianity.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR/S
Nathan Lova writes, draws and lives in Berlin. One of her favourite pastimes is to sift through various music listening services, hunting down not yet discovered or already forgotten musical gems. Her taste includes whatever there is in between punk and techno, with a soft spot for post-punk, dark wave and anything bizarre.

The website was designed by Nathan Lova with the help of CP. Illustrations are her own.
